SUMMARY:RCL Lunch Meeting - Bav Shah High Sheriff of Bedfordshire 2024/25
DESCRIPTION:  \nBav Shah\, High Sheriff of Bedfordshire 2024/25\, will be our speaker. \nRotarian Bav Shah is a Chartered Surveyor from Luton who was appointed High Sheriff of Bedfordshire by His Majesty The King\, becoming one of the youngest individuals to hold this historic office in the county’s history. \nThe role of High Sheriff is an ancient Crown appointment dating back to Saxon times. While now largely ceremonial and non-political\, it remains an important constitutional position representing the Sovereign in matters relating to the judiciary\, law and order\, and community cohesion at county level. The office plays a vital role in fostering respect for and collaboration between the courts\, police\, emergency services\, voluntary organisations\, and the wider public. \nDuring his year of service\, Bav championed a modern\, community-focused interpretation of law and order — acting not only as a symbolic representative of the Crown\, but as an active advocate for unity\, voluntary service\, public safety\, and cross-sector collaboration across Bedfordshire. \nA committed Rotarian\, Bav was previously a member of the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour (“The Darlings”) and is now a Charter Member of The Rotary Club of the City of London. In recognition of his service\, he has been awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary Club of Dunstable. \nBooking link: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/rotarycluboflondon2/2082603

SUMMARY:RCL Lunch Meeting - Helen Fry - Women in Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:Helen has authored and edited over 25 books covering the social history of the Second World War\, including British Intelligence and the secret war\, espionage and spies\, and MI9 escape and evasion. \nShe is the foremost authority on the ‘secret listeners’ who worked at special eavesdropping sites operated by British Intelligence during WWII. Her groundbreaking research and extensive media coverage have shed light on one of the greatest intelligence deceptions of the war: the bugging of Hitler’s generals at Trent Park in North London\, and thousands of prisoners of war at Latimer House and Wilton Park in Buckinghamshire. Helen is the official biographer of MI6 spymaster\, Colonel Thomas Joseph Kendrick. She has also extensively written about the 10\,000 Germans who fought for Britain during WWII. \nHelen will be speaking about her latest book – Women in Intelligence.  This book is a groundbreaking history of women in British Intelligence spanning the 20th century. It provides an incredible account of the efforts of women across two world wars\, with tales of bravery and heroism. Many new stories are told for the first time\, shining a light on the hidden legacy of women in intelligence from World War One to World War Two.
