His Excellency Iván Romero Martínez
Ambassador of Honduras to the Court of St James’s and Dean of the
Diplomatic Corps
We are honoured to welcome Ambassador Ivan Romero Martínez, one of the
most senior and respected diplomats in London, to speak to the Rotary Club
of London.
Ambassador Romero-Martínez has over 50 years of diplomatic experience,
representing Honduras around the world — including Spain, Egypt,
Morocco, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Haiti, Colombia, Belgium, the
Netherlands, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Finland,
Norway and Ireland.
He has also held several of the most prestigious multilateral positions,
including:
Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (New
York and Geneva)
Ambassador to the European Union (Brussels)
Deputy Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American
States (OAS)

At home, he acted as Special Adviser to the President of Honduras with the
rank of Secretary of State, directing his country’s foreign policy at the highest
level.
His international leadership has included roles such as:

Vice-President of the UN General Assembly
President of the International Coffee Organisation (ICO)
President of the International Mobile Satellite Organisation
Vice-President of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO)

Ambassador Romero-MartíHis nez holds degrees in law and social sciences,
as well as a PhD in international relations. He has further studied
international law and integration politics at Johns Hopkins University,
international commerce at the Centre of Comparative Studies in Buenos
Aires, and European integration at the University of Brussels.
He is also a distinguished author on matters of justice, international law, and
treaties, and has been honoured by governments and institutions
worldwide.
