We had the most interesting and entertaining talk from BARONESS NICHOLSON OF WINTERBOURNE, Amar Foundation 

Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne is a Peer of the Realm and a member of the House of Lords. She is a member of the Conservative Party and Founder and Chairman of AMAR International. She started the charity in 1991 in response to Saddam Hussein’s systematic persecution and extermination of the Marsh Arabs, and it has now grown to become one of the leading charities in the Middle East to rebuild lives in conflict countries. It has now conducted 10m health and education consultations. In Romania, the Baroness has looked after 250,000 Children, many of whom were tragically designated “undesirable” by the Government.

She is President of AMAR US, chairs the AMAR International Charitable Foundation (UK) and AMAR Lebanon. She is founder President of the Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC), chairs the Romanian Children’s High-Level Group, is a Vice President of the Mary Hare School for Deaf Children, Patron of the Caine Prize for African Writing, Chairman of the Booker Prize for Russian Fiction and Vice Chairman of the Man Booker prize for English Fiction. She has been awarded eight Honorary Doctorates has published 2 books and edited various others.

She is a member of The Reform Club, The Royal Over-Seas League, the Royal Society of Arts and an Academician of the Royal Academy of Arts.

Our meeting this week was our SGM and QBM followed by a short talk from our two students, Captain Sean Minton and Takayuki Kotoku. 

-Captain Sean M Minton
Sean is a Captain in the US Army and is a graduate of US Military Academy, West Point, NY. He will be doing MA in International Conflict Studies at King’s College London.

-Takayuki is from Toyama City, Japan and is studying for MSc in Tropical Medicine & International Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He graduated from Osaka University.

Mr Birdsall is owner and managing editor of Eye Spy Intelligence Magazine, founded in January 2000 – the world’s only independent newsstand publication devoted to intelligence and its numerous elements. He has worked as an investigative journalist, analyst and espionage writer for over 40 years. His specialty lies in the working mechanism of the intelligence services and has extensive knowledge and liaisons with many government organisations, senior officials and former intelligence officers.

Through responsible, non-political and unbiased reporting, MrBirdsall has secured the cooperation of many government offices, intelligence bodies, security services, and military organs. The mutual trust has afforded him unique access to information often beyond the reach of other media organisations. Mr Birdsall is a contributor on radio and TV and appears in the documentary, news, and current event programmes. In addition to being an advisor and contributor to numerous international newspapers and media houses, he has been invited by senior military and government agencies to lecture in the Middle East.

He is the co-author of ‘An Insider’s Guide to 150 Spy Sites of London’ followed by ‘500 Spay Sites of London, The World of Counter-Terrorism and Intelligence’ and hundreds of security and intelligence research papers.
